
Audio 101 [32 hours]
An introduction to Sound. Students will explore the physics, technology and application of sound through lecture and application.
Topics include:
• Mechanical Energy
• Electrical Energy
• Waves
• Timbre
• Pitch
• Dynamic Range and Noise
• The Harmonic Series
• Microphones and Mic techniques
• Basic DSP and Basic Mixing
Audio 201 [48 hours]
This class is about the practical usage of Audio fundamentals. Students will engage recordings towards a completed song, use post- production techniques to tighten and clean up the recordings with editing and process them with the latest DSP tools. WAVES Certification is embedded in this class.

• Drum Mic Techniques
• Pro Tools Recording Skills
• Instrument Recording
• DSP and Post-Production of Music
• Editing techniques
• Prepping for the mix
Audio 301 [16 hours]
MPE 301 is the culmination of the Music Production and Engineering series and this is where it gets good. Students will collectively record a music project from musicians in the Bay and will take the song from setup to mic’s to hard disc to overdub. This project will then be used for final and mastering in the Mixing & Mastering class.
Each student will be responsible for performing the following:
• Production meeting with the band to discuss setup and goals
• Setup Microphones and headphone mixes
• Configure console to tape
• Record and mark takes
• Schedule Overdubs and perform individual instrument replacing
• Edit and arrange song as deemed appropriate (each student)
• Mix song and present during final class
