Pyramind was founded in 1987 by Gregory J. Gordon as one of the Bay Area's first fully-integrated MIDI and digital audio production facilities. In 1996, Greg expanded Pyramind's operations to include training and networking resources for students and professionals in the digital audio industry. Pyramind grew quickly as it pioneered the process of integrating these two core elements: training in a real-world studio environment.

In 1997, Greg was invited to develop the Digital Audio program at San Francisco State University's Multimedia Studies Program, and was then asked to teach digital audio production classes and Pro Tools to film students at the Academy of Arts College and The California Recording Institute.

In 2000, Pyramind became a registered non-degree granting institution with the California Bureau for Private Post Secondary Vocational Training. Also in 2000, Greg joined with Matt Donner, who brought with him his years as an accomplished instrumentalist, composer, producer, and digital audio specialist. Matt came on board as Chief Engineer for Pyramind's commercial studio clients, as well as an instructor for, and ultimately architect of, Pyramind's expanding series of training workshops.

In 2000, Pyramind's facilities were remodeled to better accommodate the demand for classes and Pyramind's ever-growing client and student base. At that time, Pyramind became one of Digidesign's first official training centers as a sponsored school, well ahead of the rest of the world. In addition, Pyramind began offering training in Logic Audio, a long-standing tool formerly reserved for composers of film-scores. This training was well in advance of the purchase of the software company by Apple, and well before even Logic Certification program!

By April of 2003, Pyramind had outgrown its original space of operations and began renovations of the current facility at 880 Folsom St. in order to accommodate its still-growing student body and production clientele. In September of 2003, Pyramind opened for business at this new location. Then in 2007, Pyramind expanded yet again by acquiring an additional facility right down the street at 832 Folsom, which had previously been home to Universal Music's Northern California distribution head quarters.

In 2008, Pyramind hired new Vice President of Business Development Paul Lipson. Paul, a conservatory-trained musician and composer, had formerly served as the Chief Academic Officer at Ex'pression College for Digital Arts, and also still serves as the President of the Game Audio Network Guild (G.A.N.G). His impact was immediately felt, as Pyramind began ramping up its production business in the rapidly growing field of video game audio. Less than a year later, Stephen Years of 5 Rockets and Sun Microsystems joined Pyramind as the Chief Technical Officer, and was tasked with the development of Pyramind's online technical infrastructure. In June of 2009, Pyramind launched its new website on an advanced technical platform, preparing it to take advantage of exciting expansion possibilities into the networked digital world.

Pyramind now occupies over 10,000 square feet of space with has five studios, two multi-station labs, plus event and conference space.

Pyramind is proud to be offering Certification programs ranging from 4- to 12-months, in addition to the extensive client services work it performs for some the biggest names in interactive entertainment.
