He joined the team of hobbyists in high school (2002) and has since built Proton into successful platform with 125,000 users, 200 radio shows, and more than 40 independent record labels. On Wednesday March 24th, Jason will be coming to Pyramind Studios for an exclusive Planning for Success lecture outlining his story and unique advice for young musicians looking to get into a changing music industry, both in club music and beyond.
What: Planning for Success When he was born there was absolutely no lullaby tape on the planet good enough to put Jason to sleep. After trying everything his mother decided to start a music label of her own and released a lullaby album of cover songs that worked on her son. A few years later she had a platinum record and a distribution deal with BMG. So you could say from a very young age Jason had a good ear. A decade and a half later it was the sounds of a yet to be discovered DaRude that got him interested in electronic music. His interest shifted as he gained enlightenment from Paul Oakenfold to Danny Howells and finally, not surprisingly, to John Digweed-- the rest is history, as it didn't take long to get addicted to the sounds of Proton Radio. Jason got involved with the station during his senior year in High School (2002). In exchange for access to the elusive FTP archives filled with hours of DJ Mixes, Jason offered his services as a web designer for the fledging radio station. While in college (2005) Jason launched the Proton Music label, nabbing the much coveted #1 best-selling track at Beatport.com with the release Digital Witchcraft's "Fingerpaint". In his senior year of college (2006) Jason launched Proton Radio's on demand subscription service, offering streaming access to the station's 200+ exclusive radio shows. The success of the service enabled him pursue Proton Radio as his full-time career when he graduated. Upon graduation of college (2007) to the present, Jason has worked to expand the Proton Music label to support multiple labels, welcoming Argentina's Ricky Ryan as the first new label manager. To date (2010), Proton Music is now home to 40 record labels. |
