Pyramind Hosts Harmonix and Grammy U
Pyramind Hosts Harmonix and Grammy U For Exclusive Game Audio Event
Pyramind proudly hosted the Grammy U: Back to School Bash with "Rock Band" game audio event on October 11th, 2008. The event was held at Pyramind's production and training facilities at 832 Folsom street in San Francisco, and was presented by Harmonix, The Grammy Foundation, and the Game Audio Network Guild - along with sponsor Extreme Pizza. While Attendees enjoyed pizza and kiosks that featured the Xbox360 versions of Rockband 1 and 2, they listened most intently to a panel discussion moderated by Merle Saunders Jr. (Senior Executive Director, SF Chapter of the Recording Academy), Paul Lipson (President, The Game Audio Network Guild and VP of Business Development at Pyramind), and Sean Baptiste (Manager of Community Development, Harmonix).
Pyramind's Paul Lipson remarked how wonderful it was to be on the panel, because he contributed to Harmonix very first game release "The Axe". "It is so important stay friendly in such a close-knit scene". remarked Paul, "Games are a really tight community, and the person sitting next to you might be a colleague or boss in a few years". Sean Baptiste agreed, and also noted how important music has become in interactive entertainment. "75% of us play in bands" said Baptiste, "we couldn't do what we do at Harmonix without that experience".
Merle Saunders Jr. stressed how far the music industry has come, and how the interactive entertainment industry was now playing a key roll in music development, production, and distribution. "It's amazing how many young students are coming to [traditional] music from games. After playing rock band, they start to gravitate to real guitars and real drums - it's been an amazing boost to traditional learning".
