From the recent Pyramind interview with Michael......

How did you land the Sony gig? Please describe your experience at Sony and how it has impacted you.
I was fortunate to have been asked by Matt if I would be interested in a chance at an internship at Sony Computer Entertainment America. I went for an interview and got the position. The internship was great. I was working everyday with a group of very talented people in facilities I never thought I'd have access to a couple of years ago. I learned a lot in those four months. I'm very excited to be working there now as a Music Production Associate. Still learning something new everyday from all the incredible producers, engineers and composers I get to work with.

Marrow

Excerpts from the recent Pyramind interview with Marrow....

What tools did you use to come up with "Quiet Desperation"?

(Johnny) We produced all the initial tracks using Logic Pro into a G5 with Mackie HR 824s monitors. A little ES2, a lot of EXS24 and maybe when we wanted to calm things down a bit we'd bust out the ED6. Oh and lots of Reaktor and anything else Native Instruments. When it came to vocals, we'd sing into a Blue Baby Bottle into our Motu 828. Nothing too fancy. In "Sad Young Men" the sound of ice shaking in a highball glass is Lily's Mojito that she was shaking during her vocal takes. We liked it so much we ended up tracking it in a rhythmic way. When we were tracking we were in a place that we'd squeal like pigs if that's the effect we were looking for.

Wanted to again say to you how positively I feel about my Pyramind experience - you guys really are creating an excellent atmosphere to learn in, with extraordinarily competent instructors - Thanks!! I miss school already!
Take care,
--Ashley Lewis

When I first approached these guys I was highly skeptical. Since then I have grown to feel at home at Pyramind or "at the studio" as I refer to it
. I would recommend the Digital Producer Certificate-the program is strong in its broad base. It covers several of the essentials from music theory to audio engineering (music production and engineering track) and synthesis and sampling, while addressing the specific DAW / sequencer platforms. The sound for picture track rounds things out with a focus on audio post production.

At the 300 level are hands-on classes with a real workshop feel. Classes are small so that everyone gets to present their material and get feedback from instructors and the other students. The overall quality, interest level and participation of the other students is a bonus as the whole environment breeds a creative and open culture -people are there because they want to be.

The facilities are good- the lab was great for the sound for picture series, the vault is a great room - pristine sound quality and a real workhorse (dual g5 mac with protools HD, the waves bundle, native instruments, etc...) and Studio B seems like it would be great for tracking a band- I just mastered a DJ demo CD in there.
Matt and Greg are more about building a relationship with their students and have been open to work with an individual's needs to tailor their program to help them grow in making music.
-- Thomas Ballantyne

My first two classes at Pyramind went great.
I took MPE 101 and MTK 101. I found both classes highly informative and exciting. I learned new concepts about topics that I have immense interest in and this has further inspired me to learn as much I can at Pyramind. I felt the classes went smoothly, with a clear structure on what we would be learning and what information we would be required to remember. I feel this approach was complimentary to the in-class exercises. In MTK 101, Matt's teaching style was excellent - using common musical references to explain complicated theory components, Thanks PYRAMIND, you are going to help fulfill my career dreams!
-- Jen Covens

I didn't expect to grasp pro tools because it has been shrouded in mystery all the years that I worked at a radio station, but in Pro Tools 101 at Pyramind, the pace of the curriculum and the personal attention of the teacher has made the process of learning it entirely manageable. It is something that anyone can learn in a couple of months given the right circumstances, and I have to say that Pyramind is definitely right. The conscientiousness of the whole staff gives me confidence that I can learn anything they teach.
-- Emily Meehan

If I could back to school again and do it all over knowing what I know now having gotten a degree from Full Sail, I would attend Pyramind. They have the best program for music production. I’m learning exactly what I need to be successful - not unrelated, out dated techniques and gear. The small class sizes make perfect opportunities for answering specific personal project questions.
-- Jonathan Rickert

I just wanted to drop you a line and tell you that my training with Bryan was perfect--exactly the help that I’ve been looking for--like turning a light on in a darkened room.
Thank you so much for setting this up!
--Sue Mell

It’s nice to have a manageable amount of information to work with on our own each week, and since most of us will encounter problems along the way. Timo and Steve are both fabulous teachers and I already know about David Earl's abilities since he has tutored me privately. I am learning to accomplish exactly {what I need} through Pyramind. I don't know of another local school where I could have done that. Compared to tuition at Expression Center–it's the difference between taking classes or not being able to afford them. I think Pyramind is great!
-- Dean Santomiere

Wow! What an opportunity to learn and experiment at Pyramind:
Great instructors, great equipment and a great environment for a music production school. Thank you for the opportunity and help you've provided. Pyramind is an Awesome place to learn music and media production. 880 Folsom St. 'tis the place to be! Advanced technology and advanced creativity, it's all here...
-- Mr. Wylie A. Linquist

Nothing but good to say, the classes have been instrumental in moving me forward in my music production career. Steve H. has been a great help, as well. So, thanks again for the blessings.
-- Kim Black

I am very pleased with the education that I am receiving at pyramind. I met Matt Donner when he taught a Pro Tools class at San Francisco State. I felt like his class was the first really focused and educational class I had taken. So when I found out that he also taught at another school, I enrolled. I have not been disappointed. The classes are small (4-8 students) and everyone is on the same page, you know, involved and awake and interested. It is a welcoming and comfortable environment in which to learn. The teachers are highly educated, with great real world experience, and everyone shares the same passion for creativity, technology and of course, music. We get a lot of personal time with the equipment and someone is always ready to help if you have a problem. My only advice is to expect to get out of it what you put into it.
-- Asha Jameson

Thank-you so much for the Mixing class! I learned so much from it, and really cannot thank you enough for all the insight, tools, and tricks. Most important of which was to get me to open my ears, and mind more to immerse myself in the song, and the experience. The practical tools were essential as well!
So, again, Thank-you!
-- Mike Blodgett
