What is RSS?
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" or "Rich
Site Summary." Basically, RSS is a way for users to keep
up to date with any changes to a website makes, and/or keeping
up with Blogs. (provided they update their RSS "feed")
Users use applications called "Aggregators" which can
be downloaded or be based online. (My Yahoo).
By subscribing to the "feeds" from multiple websites,
users don't have to visit sites they like to keep up with. Instead
the changes and/or updates are brought to the user in a simple
e-mail like fashion. Aggregators do the job of consolidating all
of the feeds that have been subscribed to, and brings them all to
the user's desktop.
A good place to start with RSS is downloading a free Aggregator
like: NetNewsWire Lite for Mac, or Pluck for PC.
From there, any time you see this image: that indicates there's a feed. By clicking it, the aggrigator
application should either open it as a feed, or you'll get some
text. Through the aggregator application, you can copy and paste
the link to subscribe to it.
RSS is a really cool way to keep up with your favorite websites
(like this one) without clicking a million and a half links.
