Beat University is the first dedicated Electronic Music scholarship fund in America!
It began as the brain child of Pyramind graduate Liam Shy through the implementation of a simple concept: Throw parties and donate the money raised at the door for an electronic music scholarship. Build the fund over time and then give the money away to aspiring electronic musicians based on merit and need.
Liam successfully brought together Pyramind Studios, the SF LovEvolution festival and supperclub, to turn that dream into a reality.
Beat University became the collective vision of this select group as a way for the San Francisco community to come together in support of the next generation of gifted artists and DJ's.
With virtually no financial aid opportunities available for electronic musicians and in a time of unprecedented State and Federal cut backs for education in the Arts, this community minded group decided to do something that would make a difference.
In 2009 the concept expanded to include production of a CD to help generate more revenue for the fund. Epiphyte Records, Pyramind's in-house label, partnered with LovEvolution and some of the best international and Bay Area electronic music artists to produce their first official 2009 Compilation CD. All of the artists and the label donated 100% of the proceeds to Beat University!
The scholarship fund is now built from proceeds generated by the Beat University events, LovEvolution CD sales, and matching contributions by both LovEvolution and Pyramind.
The scholarships are for use at Pyramind Studios, the leader in digital music, recording, and game audio training in the heart of San Francisco. Pyramind has been a great community and education center for electronic music in San Francisco for over 10 years running and is providing matching funds and custom curriculums designed specifically for each of the selected applicants.
Applicants will be screened for merit (based on the quality of their application and demo submission) by a panel made up of both Pyramind and LovEvolution staff members. Please fill out the form above to begin the application process. After successfully submitting your information a packet of downloadable forms will be sent to you to fill out and return. Those forms include specific information about submitting both your application, and music demo. So please read them carefully!

- Must be 18 or older and a Bay Area resident to apply.
- Must fill out a Pyramind Basic Application Form online.

- Must be absolutely passionate for music and sound!!
- Must be able to attend school at Pyramind Studios in San Francisco, CA, live within a reasonable distance from Pyramind, and have a schedule that accommodates daytime classes.
